Residency features Pottery and Fibre Art

Artists in Residence Liz Demerson and Rachel Anne MacGillivray will move into the Officers’
Barracks studio September 3. Each will work on their artistic endeavours daily from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. until September 9.

Demerson is an established potter, a teacher, and a juried member of the NB Craft Council. After
graduating from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in 2003, Demerson ran her own
pottery business for seven years. Since, she has taught many pottery classes and workshops. During
her second week as artist in residence, Demerson hopes to foster new connexions with the public
and other artists at the Garrison District.

MacGillivray is an artist exploring memory, personal stories and tradition. A graduate of Ryerson
University and of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, MacGillivray has been the
recipient of two Fredericton Fibre Arts awards, and the national winner of the Art from Memory
Challenge. At the Barracks, she will work with textiles, digital image transfer, dyes, stitchery and
silk screen to investigate how personalities are shaped.

The Fredericton Arts Alliance, a registered charity, appreciates support for this program from the
City of Fredericton, the Province of New Brunswick, Downtown Fredericton and the RBC
Emerging Artist program. Saint Thomas University, Ingrid Mueller Art+Concepts, Isaac’s Way
Restaurant, and Fellows & Co Architects are all sponsoring an artist for a week.

Next week, September 10 to September 16, the residency will feature silversmiths Kristyn Cooper
and Kristianne LeBreton.

The Summer 2011 Artists in Residence program runs until September 16 and has included potters,
painters, jewellers, photographers, fibre-artists, writers, printmakers and musicians.
